Growing Up and Finding My Passion

My journey started long before I stepped foot on the University of Cincinnati campus. Growing up, I was always curious and eager to create art. I remember spending hours editing small projects, trying to figure out how things worked and how I could improve them. This curiosity laid the foundation for my entrepreneurial spirit.

My family played a significant role in shaping my mindset. They encouraged me to take risks and learn from failures. This support gave me the confidence to pursue ideas that others might have dismissed. I learned early on that entrepreneurship is not just about making money; it’s about creating value and making a difference. Have a reason why you do what you do.

Balancing Student Life and Entrepreneurship

Being a student entrepreneur is a unique challenge. It requires juggling coursework, exams, and deadlines alongside building and managing a business. Time management quickly became one of my most valuable skills. I developed routines that allowed me to dedicate focused hours to both my studies and my entrepreneurial projects.

One practical approach I used was breaking down large tasks into smaller, manageable steps. For example, instead of trying to launch a product all at once, I focused on developing a prototype, then testing it with a small group, and gradually expanding based on feedback. This method helped me stay organized and reduce overwhelm.

Learning from Challenges and Failures

No entrepreneurial journey is without setbacks. I faced moments when things didn’t go as planned—whether it was a photography service that didn’t meet expectations or a marketing strategy that fell flat. Each challenge taught me valuable lessons about resilience and adaptability.

For instance, early in my venture, I underestimated the importance of customer feedback. After launching a service, I realized that I hadn’t fully understood my target audience’s needs. This experience pushed me to engage more directly with customers, listen carefully, and iterate based on their input. It was a turning point that improved both my product and my approach to business.

The Role of the University of Cincinnati

The University of Cincinnati has been an incredible resource throughout my journey. Beyond providing a solid academic foundation, the university offers programs and support tailored to student entrepreneurs. Access to mentors, workshops, and networking events has helped me connect with like-minded peers and experienced professionals.

One example is the university’s College of Business, Carl H. Lidner, which offers guidance on business planning, funding, and marketing. Being part of this community has made a significant difference in my ability to grow my venture while staying on track academically.

Sharing My Story on Bearcats Mean Business

Being invited to the Bearcats Mean Business podcast was both an honor and a chance to inspire others. During the episode, I talked openly about my background, the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, and the lessons I’ve learned. I also shared advice for fellow students who might be considering starting their own ventures.

Some key points I emphasized include:

  • The importance of persistence when facing obstacles

  • How to balance academic responsibilities with business goals

  • The value of seeking feedback and continuously improving

  • Leveraging university resources and building a strong support network

This conversation was a reminder that entrepreneurship is a journey filled with growth, learning, and community.

What’s Next for Me

Looking ahead, I plan to continue developing my business while finishing my degree. I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and the chance to apply what I’ve learned in real-world settings. I also want to give back by mentoring other student entrepreneurs and sharing my experiences.

The podcast experience has motivated me to keep pushing forward and to embrace every challenge as a chance to grow. I hope my story encourages others to take the leap and pursue their passions, no matter how daunting it may seem.
